Navigating HIV in the Aging Population: Advanced Clinical Insights

In this issue:

People living with HIV (PLWH) face unique challenges as they age, including an increased risk of cardiovascular (CV) disease, complications from managing multiple medications, and cognitive impairment. These issues complicate the management of HIV in older adults and thus require tailored strategies to optimize treatment outcomes and improve their quality of life.

In this issue of eHIV Review, Jose A. Lucar, MD, Associate Professor at The George Washington University, explores CV risk-reduction strategies as well as issues related to polypharmacy and neurocognitive decline in older PLWH. Learners will expect to improve their ability to assess and better address factors in the aging and older HIV population that complicate treatment or warrant special considerations for management.

Learning objective:

Assess factors associated with the aging population that may complicate treatment or warrant special considerations.
