Implementing Effective Management of Substance Use Disorders in the HIV Population

The use of addictive substances is highly prevalent among people living with HIV (PWH), greatly impacting treatment adherence, transmission rates, and long-term health outcomes. In this issue of eHIV Review, Ayesha Appa, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, reviews evidence-based strategies to improve the identification and treatment of substance use disorders in PWH. More specifically, Dr. Appa will cover management considerations for stimulant use disorder, alcohol use disorder, tobacco use, and opioid use disorder in the HIV population.
