In this issue of eHIV Review, William Short, MD, MPH, AAHIVS, Associate Professor of Medicine at Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, discusses strategies for reducing perinatal and postnatal HIV transmission. These strategies include ART adherence, expanded ART options during pregnancy, and updated guidelines on infant feeding. In addition, recently published data reviews the unique challenges faced by patients with perinatally acquired HIV now entering middle age. Clinicians need greater awareness of the potential for reducing perinatal HIV transmission with appropriate care as well as the unique barriers and challenges of managing care in this population.
