In this issue of eHIV Review, Rohit Rao, MD, PGY2 Internal Medicine Resident and Ethel D. Weld, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine, Physiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, discuss the evidence for new and emerging treatment regimens for HIV. These regimens include once-daily oral bictegravir plus lenacapavir, four-monthly injectable N6LS plus monthly intramuscular lenacapavir, once-weekly oral islatravir plus lenacapavir, and bimonthly injectable cabotegravir plus rilpivirine. Together, these new and emerging regimens have the potential to reduce treatment barriers, increase treatment adherence, and expand treatment access to improve patient outcomes around the world. Clinicians need greater awareness of the expanding toolkit for HIV treatment regimens to select the most appropriate option for each patient and optimize treatment outcomes.
Describe the safety and efficacy of newer and investigational treatments for HIV.
