Although vaccines to prevent hepatitis B acquisition have long existed, a “cure” for those infected has rarely been achieved. But new insights into the life cycle of the virus, as well as improved knowledge about how to boost a host’s immune system to clear HBV, are pointing the way to potential new therapies.
In this issue, Dr. Marion Peters from Northwestern University analyzes the current literature in this rapidly moving area and brings us up to date on the status of HBV research as of Spring of 2020.
