Statement of Responsibility

The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine takes responsibility for the content, quality, and scientific integrity of this CME activity.

Statement of Need

  • Many clinicians do not follow current guidelines for hepatitis C screening, leading to missed opportunities to diagnose the condition and treat people with the virus.
  • After screening, clinicians remain challenged in overcoming barriers to effective treatment and eradication.
  • Despite the connection between new HCV infections and the injection drug use epidemic, clinicians do not effectively screen/treat/retreat their patients who inject drugs (PWID).
  • Low clinician awareness of the common comorbidities of HCV infection can lead to suboptimal patient outcomes.
