Special Edition 2019

Adherence & Technology

In this issue:

ADHERENCE. In this Special Edition Issue, our guest authors from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth — Dr. Alex Gifford, Associate Professor and Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program at the New Hampshire Cystic Fibrosis Center, and Senior Research Director Kathryn Sabadosa, MPH — summarize the importance of medication adherence and ways that increased clinician-patient communication can support treatment regimens that optimize adherence improvement.

TECHNOLOGY.  From platforms and devices used to motivate patients to increase self-management and actively implement their care goals; to ways to reduce the isolation and stigmatization caused by the symptoms and treatment burden of the disease — technology continues to provide new ways to improve adherence and the QoL of patients with CF. The second part of this Special Edition Issue provides capsule summaries of some of the innovations showcased at the 2018 AOTC Adherence Lab at NACFC.

Learning objectives:

  • Summarize the importance of medication adherence and identify potential groups at higher risk of nonadherence.
  • Discuss ways to support optimal treatment regimens to improve adherence.
  • Describe how the application of novel technologies may improve adherence.
