This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing. The Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Course Format

The eCysticFibrosis Review series consists of a monthly review of journal literature on key, pertinent topics, emailed as either a newsletter or podcast, to clinicians caring for patients with cystic fibrosis. The timely commentary on current research, best practices and clinical management issues is provided by an expert panel of cystic fibrosis specialists.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Discuss the importance of medication adherence and potential groups at higher risk for nonadherence.
  • Identify ways to support optimal treatment regimens to improve adherence.
  • Recognize novel technologies’ application and how they improve adherence measurement.

Statement of Need

  • Although clinicians understand the importance of adherence for patients with CF, they are challenged to accurately evaluate their patients’ actual adherence.
  • Clinicians may not know how to evaluate adherence and how that information can empower patients to modify their behavior.
  • Clinicians’ lack of familiarity with novel technologies for delivering treatment and fostering adherence may prevent optimal use by patients with CF when these technologies are more widely available.

Successful Completion

To receive credit, participants must (1) read the learning objectives and disclosure statements, (2) complete the educational activity, and (3) complete the post-test and activity evaluation form, including the certificate information section. Physicians must attest to the amount of time they spent on the activity.

A passing grade of 70% or higher on the post-test/evaluation is required to receive CME credit.

Intended Audience

The target audience (clinicians) for this initiative includes pulmonologists, pediatric pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, pediatricians, infectious disease specialists, respiratory therapists, dieticians, nutritionists, nurses, and physical therapists.

There are no fees or prerequisites for this activity.
